The absurdity of life is hard to deny

The absurdity of life is mostly unexamined, yet hard to deny when you really think about it.

“We need to buy some pesto for dinner tonight”, whilst navigating a motorway junction that might be our very last.

“I’ve got to catch the early train tomorrow”, unbeknownst a heart attack might prevent that from happening.

The trivial minutiae and the possibility of the profoundly inevitable, mixed together in each passing moment.

And isn’t that the real difficulty of being fully alive, making decisions about stuff that ultimately has no meaning?

I used to think it was all pretty helpless, like what is the point in even trying, if everything comes to nothing.

But I came to see that was the entire point.

Finding a way to live a good life, not taking yourself too seriously, making the most of opportunities that comes your way, taking nothing for granted.

It’s trying to be your very best person, despite the limited time we have.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot on my weekend away, and I would encourage you to do the same.
