I’ve worked in public sector transformation for 5 years now. But after a nearly year long sabbatical throughout 2019, I’ve recently returned to work again – this time back in the private sector.
It wasn’t without some serious consideration as I left finance and went into public sector work because of the digital revolution that was going on.
I decided to not accept another “public sector Agile BA” role because I couldn’t bring myself to go back into the chaotic, sometimes bullying, always wasteful environment whilst at the same time being tasked with the responsibility for organisational change
Parting note to senior civil servants –
Rolling out Jira / Confluence / Slack won’t be enough to transform your department out of industrial thinking and ways of working. Don’t pat yourself on the back thinking this is “digital transformation”.
I’m sorry – it’s not me but you.
Ask any project manager about the key to their success, and they will say that delivering a project is often more like a "dark art" or by chance, than a predictable science.
